STRING PROJECT | LOS ANGELES
At String Project|LA (SPLA) we believe each student is an artist. That’s why we’ve created the Alternative String Group (ASG), the most innovative and inspiring experience for young artists offered anywhere in the country. Far more than just a performing ensemble, the ASG offers young string players the opportunity to improvise, to play music they enjoy, to work as a team, and to express themselves through their instruments.
Our fall Alternative String Groups began meeting in 2007. Since then, we’ve been having a great time working on every style of music from Freddie Hubbard and U2 to Dr. Dre and Rage Against the Machine. ASG students have enjoyed regular live performances at the old Jazz Bakery in Culver City and Pasadena Jazz Institute. Our tradition of live performances continues in new venues as part of our curriculum. It’s not too late to join! While we ongoingly work towards live concerts in January, June, and September, students can join our groups at any time. No experience playing in alternative styles or improvising is required. Check for current spaces in our Summer Classes at our headquarters in Culver City. Please contact us if you have any questions or to register.
