At SPLA we believe each student is an artist. That’s why we’ve created the Alternative String Group (ASG), the most
innovative and inspiring experience for young artists offered anywhere in the country. Far more than just a performing
ensemble, the ASG offers young string players the opportunity to improvise, to play music they enjoy, to work as a team,
and to express themselves through their instruments.
Our fall Alternative String Groups began meeting on the weekend of Oct 6, and so far we've been having a great time
working on the music of Freddie Hubbard and U2. We are looking forward to our next big performance at the Jazz
Bakery in January. It's not too late to join! While we are working towards big concerts in January, June, and
September, students can join our groups at any time. No experience playing in alternative styles or improvising is
required. We currently have spaces in our Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday classes. Please contact us if you have
any questions or to register.
